Gears of War: E-Day Patch Notes and Updates

Gears of War: E-Day patch notes and updates: the required Day 1 patch, the October 2 marcus-lancer fix with 15,000 Coins, launch tuning and open issues.

On this page

Short answer

A required Day 1 patch on October 1, then a server fix on October 2

Two updates have landed since early access began. A required Day 1 patch was announced on October 1, 2026, about twenty minutes after early access opened. On October 2, The Coalition deployed a fix for the marcus-lancer connection error and granted affected players 15,000 Coins.

Neither came with a full change list. The detailed notes are the ones published on September 30, which cover everything changed between the August beta and the launch build. This page tracks all three, plus the issues the studio has acknowledged but not yet patched. Dates are in Pacific Time.

Check that you have the Day 1 patch

The game shows a number in the bottom-left corner of the main menu that identifies the version you are running. Support staff call it the TCCL number, and it also appears on error messages.

  1. Close the game completely. Do not leave it suspended.
  2. Check for an update on your console, in the Xbox PC app or in Steam. On Steam, start any scheduled update manually.
  3. Launch the game and look at the bottom-left corner of the main menu.
  4. If the number reads 4879665, you are on the unpatched build. The official notice says to update.
  5. Note the number you see. Support asks for it when you report a problem.

What the launch build changed since the beta

Changes listed in the September 30 notes, grouped by area
AreaChanges
WeaponsPrototype Lancer damage set between its two beta values. Lancer Mk1 and Vulcan damage down, Hammerburst up. Gnasher hits harder when aimed at range and hip-fire is more consistent. Snub fires slower. Gut-Puncher carries less spare ammo.
Movement and coverStrafing is more responsive. Cover entry speed and cancel distance were adjusted. Cover Slip is slower and the slide is shorter.
Horde SiegeInvasions, Commander and Allfather are harder. Equipment and Squad Perks cost more, and some perks do less. Weapon Part rewards from invasions and stockpiles are lower. Repair objectives and the Medic’s stim duration were adjusted.
VersusShorter wave respawn time, fewer trades, and new scoring in Demolition and Crucible.
OptionsAn FOV slider, toggles for film grain and chromatic aberration, and better HDR calibration on every platform. On PC, Max FPS choices from 30 to 240 or Unlimited and optional multi frame generation.
ProgressionPlayer XP was rebalanced between Horde Siege and Versus, and backfill bots behave better.

On Xbox, the “The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day” achievement was removed ahead of a Mythic Achievements feature. The title it gave is still earned by completing the other achievements, and the achievement remains on Steam.

Bugs the launch build fixed

A selection from the bug-fix list in the same notes.

  • PC graphics settings no longer reset between launches.
  • Extra input delay on mouse and keyboard was removed.
  • Players no longer get stuck on “Waiting for Other Players” in Versus.
  • Team Deathmatch matches no longer end early.
  • Several Horde Siege objectives that would not start or complete now work.
  • Macro abuse of semi-automatic weapons was blocked.
  • Several matchmaking errors and timeouts were fixed.

The October 2 fix and the 15,000 Coins

The marcus-lancer code appeared on October 1 for some players when the game tried to connect to its online services, and it stopped them getting in. The Coalition confirmed a fix the next day.

As an apology, players who were affected were granted 15,000 Coins. The studio says the grant does not count against the weekly Coin cap. Its notice does not describe a claim step, so there is nothing to redeem; it also does not say how “affected” was decided.

The same notice restates who can play before October 6. The account you play on must own the base game, or hold its own Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass membership, and that same account must own the Premium Edition Upgrade.
