Short answer
Identify the symptom first: entitlement message, error code at the menu, or a crash
Most launch-week reports fall into three groups. A “Coming Soon” or “Too Early” message means your licence does not include early access yet. An error code such as drone-snub or marcus-lancer before the main menu is a connection or system problem that support is still investigating. Crashes and failures to start usually trace back to drivers, storage or security software.
The steps below come from The Coalition’s launch notes and from its support staff in the official Discord, posted between October 1 and 3, 2026. Fixes marked as possible are theirs, not guarantees.
- Support site
- GearsofWar.com/support
- Service status
- status.gearsofwar.com
- Network port
- UDP 3074
Match your symptom
| Symptom | Likely cause | What support says |
|---|---|---|
| “Coming Soon” or “Too Early” on the game tile | No early access entitlement, or a stale licence | Restart, check for updates, launch from your library instead of the store page, check region settings. |
| drone-snub (sometimes with manu-boomshot) | Cannot reach online services | Investigating. Make sure UDP 3074 is open and run the network steps below. |
| marcus-lancer | Unknown, under investigation | Possible fix: a Windows repair install that keeps data and apps. |
| “Easy Anti-Cheat is not installed” | Anti-cheat service missing | Run EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup from the game’s EasyAntiCheat folder. |
| Cannot link Xbox account on Steam | Gaming Services or a modified Windows install | Run the Gaming Services Repair Tool and sign in to the right gamertag in the Xbox PC app. |
PC: general fixes in order of effort
- Update your NVIDIA, AMD or Intel graphics driver.
- Confirm the game is installed on an SSD; support also suggests trying the system drive and checking for SSD firmware updates.
- Verify game files in Steam or the Xbox app.
- Run the Gaming Services Repair Tool for PC.
- Temporarily disable third-party antivirus, firewalls, VPNs, ad blockers and overlays. Norton and Comodo were named as blocking the game’s executables during the beta.
- Reset the local config: with the game closed, back up and empty the Gears of War E-Day folder under %LocalAppData%\Microsoft (the Steam or WinGDK subfolder).
- Run the game as administrator, or try a new local Windows account.
- Reinstall the game. A Windows repair install is the last resort.
Connection errors on any platform
These apply when you are stuck before the main menu or drop out of matches.
- Check status.gearsofwar.com for an outage.
- On PC, open Command Prompt as administrator and run ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew and netsh winsock reset, then reboot.
- Make sure your PC’s date and time are correct.
- Turn off web filtering or ad blocking on your router. Support names AT&T ActiveArmor as a known conflict.
- On a campus or work network, try a VPN; on mobile data, ask the provider to remove filtering.
- Use a wired connection on Xbox while testing.
Xbox Series X|S checks
- You have at least Game Pass Essential for online play.
- The game is on internal storage. If it is on a Storage Expansion Card, move it.
- You have done a full shutdown from Settings, waited a minute and powered back on.
- You launched from My Games and Apps, not from the store page.
- Support also lists clearing reserved space and deleting the game save as later steps; treat deleting a save as a last resort.
Known issues The Coalition has acknowledged
The September 30 launch notes and the beta’s known-issues list include a handful of problems with no announced fix. Knowing them saves you from chasing a problem on your own machine.
- Playing the entire campaign without ever reloading a checkpoint or restarting can cause memory problems. If you get blocked at an encounter, reload the checkpoint.
- The game process may keep running after you close it. End it in Task Manager.
- The benchmark overlay does not count generated frames and can under-report FPS.
- Recording with OBS versions older than 29.0.0 crashed the game during the beta.
- Being signed in to the Xbox app with one account and the Windows Store with another can block online play, according to the beta notes.
Quick questions
Why does E-Day say “Too Early” when I pre-ordered?
Early access from October 1 required the Premium or Collector’s Edition, or the Premium Upgrade. Standard Edition and Game Pass players start on October 6.
How do I report a problem?
Submit a request through GearsofWar.com/support. Support staff also run an e-day-support forum in the official Discord.
Is the drone-snub error fixed?
As of October 2, 2026 the support thread listed it as under investigation. Mitigations were added in August and the required port changed from UDP 443 to UDP 3074.
