Short answer
Yes, between Xbox Series X|S, the Xbox PC app and Steam
Both store pages list cross-platform play. The Xbox Store shows “Xbox cross-platform multiplayer” and “Xbox cross-platform co-op,” and the Steam page lists Cross-Platform Multiplayer. That covers campaign co-op, Horde Siege and Versus.
There is no PlayStation crossplay because the game is not on PlayStation. Steam players can play without an Xbox account, but need to link one to send invites to friends on other platforms.

Linking an account on Steam
These steps come from The Coalition’s beta FAQ.
- Launch the game and go to the main menu.
- Open the social pane.
- Find the “Link Account” button in the upper-left corner of the screen.
- Select it and follow the Microsoft sign-in flow.
- Send or accept a squad invite to confirm it worked.
Does progress carry between platforms?
On the Xbox side, yes. The game is an Xbox Play Anywhere title with Xbox cloud saves, so one purchase and one save cover Xbox Series X|S and the Xbox PC app.
On Steam, the store description says optional account linking “lets you carry progress with roaming saves.” A Steam copy is still a separate purchase: linking moves progress, not ownership.
What has not been confirmed
Players often ask about three things that official sources do not address. We could not find a statement on any of them, so we are listing them as open rather than guessing.
- Whether crossplay can be turned off, on console or PC.
- Whether matchmaking separates controller players from mouse and keyboard players.
- Whether Ranked Versus uses the same cross-platform pool as Social.
If linking fails
Account linking problems came up during the beta, and the August 12 patch improved an issue where players could not link Microsoft accounts. Support staff in the official Discord have since pointed PC players to the Gaming Services Repair Tool and to checking that the Xbox PC app is signed in to the intended gamertag.
The beta’s known-issues list adds that being signed in to the Xbox app with one account and the Windows Store with another can block online play, so sign both in to the same account. It also noted that account linking did not work on Steam Machines at the time.
Before inviting a friend on another platform
- Both of you own the game or have it through Game Pass.
- The console player has Game Pass Essential or higher.
- The Steam player has linked an Xbox account.
- On PC, the Xbox PC app is signed in to the gamertag you mean to use.
- Everyone has installed the latest update.
